      The National Skill Training Institute for Women (erstwhile Regional Vocational Training Institute for Women), Kazhakuttom, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is imparting Vocational Training in accordance with the requirements of local industries and  providing need- based training to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship among women. The institute functions under the Government of India, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Directorate General of  Training (DGT), under the Women’s Training Cell . It was formerly under the Ministry of Labour &Employment and the Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T).
     As an  exclusive institute for women ,the institute conducts regular long term training programmes in various disciplines along with short term and need-based training programmes . The long term programmes  are offered under the Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), enabling trainees to acquire industry-relevant technical skills and, in the case of CITS, professional competencies required for becoming instructors.
     The institute also functions as an Extension Centre for the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana(PMKVY) and the Skill Hubs Initiative(SHI), besides conducting various short-term skill development programmes. The 'Skill Hubs Initiative' under PMKVY 3.0 aims to leverage and create  shared infrastructure, aligned with the requirements  of the local economy, thereby addressing the vocational training and skill development needs of diverse target groups.Â
    Through its diverse training programmes and initiatives, the institute contributes to women's skill development, employability, entrepreneurship and overall participation in the workforce, while responding to the evolving skill requirements of local industries and the wider economy.
